Surprise, surprise: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's brainy sleuth is now into social media and Google.
"Sherlock," a funny and fast-paced new offering from "Masterpiece Mystery!" presents a contemporary Sherlock, played by the charismatic Benedict Cumberbatch.
Skeptical? Don't be.
Even though the series takes place in 21st century Britain, it remains true to the iconic hero's eccentricities and remarkable gifts for deduction.
And, yes, he's still aided by a droll Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman), who chronicles Holmes' adventures in a blog. First up is a case that has them investigating the murder of a woman, clad in pink, whose body was discovered in an abandoned building. 9 tonight, PBS.

Tonight: This week on "Undercover Boss," Steve Phelps, the senior vice president of NASCAR, actually gets grease on his hands. He works with a pit crew preparing for the Daytona 500. 8 p.m., CBS.
Monday: Season 3 of "In Treatment" opens with the recently divorced Paul (Gabriel Byrne) in fear that he may be developing Parkinson's disease. But that doesn't keep him from seeing a new patient (Irrfan Khan), a widower from Calcutta. 9 p.m., HBO.
Monday: Have you heard? Zombies are the new vampires -- and they're wreaking havoc on "Dead Set." It's a dark, five-part satire of reality TV that imagines an attack of flesh-eaters on the contestants of "Big Brother," who are trapped in their studio house. Is it wrong to root for the zombies? Midnight, IFC.
Tuesday: Let's do the Time Warp again, this time with the "Glee" kids, who don costumes for a staged tribute to "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Does that mean we get to toss toilet paper and toast at the TV screen? 8 p.m., Fox.
Tuesday: It's TV's version of birth control: "16 and Pregnant" returns with a story about Brooke, a Texas tomboy struggling to balance life as a pregnant teen and newlywed. Don't expect smooth sailing ahead. 10 p.m., MTV.
Wednesday: Break out the peanuts and Cracker Jack and take us out to the ball game. The World Series gets under way tonight in the park of the National League champ. Joe Buck and Tim McCarver call the action. 7:30 p.m., Fox.
Wednesday: One of TV's best dramas, "Friday Night Lights," launches its fifth and final season with a couple of farewells: Julie (Aimee Teegarden) and Landry (Jesse Plemons) are shipping off to college. Sigh. 9 p.m., DirecTV.
Thursday: The new Halloween special, "Scared Shrekless," has our favorite green ogre challenging his fairy-tale friends to a scary storytelling contest. But there's a catch: They have to spend the night in Lord Farquaad's haunted castle. 8 p.m., NBC.
Thursday: Is it Mondo's crown to lose on "Project Runway"? The colorful designer appears to be the front-runner as the show's eighth season concludes with a finale that will have fans on pins and needles. 9 p.m., Lifetime.
Friday: "What Not to Wear" returns for a new season and don't look now, but "Facts of Life" star Mindy Cohn is about to get an ultra-glam makeover. Will we even be able to recognize Natalie? 9 p.m., TLC.
Saturday: Things figure to get pretty hairy in the TV movie, "Red: Werewolf Hunter." Felicia Day stars as the title character, who springs into action when her fiance is bitten by one of the freaky creatures. We're expecting the film to provoke more snickers than shudders. 9 p.m., Syfy.
