DUNCANS MILLS ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL UNCORKS NEW IMAGE

Fans of good art, food, wine, beer and music may be drawn to the small

riverside village of Duncans Mills for the 17th annual Festival of Art & Wine

this weekend.

In recognition of the increasing flow of finely cured beverages at the

festival, organizers appended the name to include ''wine.''

About 15 wineries and seven microbrew beer makers will hold a tasting

exhibition throughout the two-day event.

For years, the Festival of Art boasted displays of some of the best art and

craft exhibitors in Sonoma County. And this year is no exception.

The event organizers are artists and crafts people who actually jury the

submissions of vendors before they select who can participate. Only handmade

goods are accepted, and about 80 crafts people will exhibit and sell their

goods.

The Festival of Art & Wine takes place in a meadow adjacent to a string of

shops and galleries in the hamlet.

Entertainment will be varied and plentiful.

A contemporary jazz group, OM, will kick off the event taking place from 10

a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Included in the roster of acts Saturday will be original folk rock from

Jessie Turner, cajun zydeco from Tee Fee, and Bob Hartman will perform his

puppet theater.

On Sunday, Aryeh Frankfurter will play Celtic harp, ESQ will play jazz,

Blues Burners will share a little ''rocking blues,'' and the Story Quilters

will hold a story-telling session for kids of all ages.

Toy duck races, bounce and slides, face painting and candle making are

among the events geared toward small children.

And though food isn't part of the festival's expanded name, there will be

no shortage of it.

The selection of food will be just as varied as the entertainment with

mixture of cuisines. German, Thai and Mexican will be on hand, as well as

seafood and vegetarian dishes.

And to wash down your meal, commemorative glasses for the event will

include five tastings for $10.

Participating wineries include Alderbrook, Barefoot Cellars, Blackstone,

DeLoach, Hanna, Korbel, Lake Sonoma, Louis Martini, Mark West, Paradise Ridge,

Pedroncelli, Pierano, Quivera, Simi and Topolos. Breweries include Bear

Republic, Lagunitas, Moonlight, Mt. St. Helena, Russian River, Mendocino

Brewing Co. and Sierra Nevada.

The festival is a benefit for Stewards of Salvianka, the nonprofit that

supports volunteer programs in the California state parks of Sonoma and

Mendocino Counties.
