First Friday Art Walk Captivates and Entertains Guerneville

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012 | Posted by

The first Friday of June is almost upon us and with its arrival, surging through Guerneville, comes a roiling ocean of art.
We’re most of us aware that art is in the eye and mind of the beholder and some people can see Munch’s “The Scream” in a glazed donut, but that’s what art is all about.
Making your own mind up about what you consider Art and what you regard as pretentious trash comes with exposure, and reflection. And that’s what makes these First Friday Art Walks so precious and exciting.
This Friday we lucky Guernevillians (and whomever visits) have a chance to check out an abundance of creations by people who call themselves artists, and decide for ourselves what floats our boats.
Here then, courtesy of Karen Lockert and Otto Wllis, is a list of venues where “Art” may be viewed. Many of the venues have receptions, and there will be musicians and entertainers circulating here and there, to keep us from being swallowed by this artistic abyss.

Really good piece, Stephen! I will be working on a piece at the old bank, next to mainstreet. John Butler will also be there.

  • Stephen Gross

Thanks Laura. I’ll be looking for you – and it’s a hot day so don’t forget to keep hydrated.

Friday’s Art Walk was a lot of fun and many thanks to Otto Willis for educating while giving us a great tour. Both the S.C. Arts Council and the Tourism Bureau now can help promote this event and provide resources for growth. Let’s make Sonoma County a destination for the arts, as well as food and wine!
