Old (now pedestrian) Guerneville Bridge

Drake Road Closure
DRAKE ROAD REPAIRS June/July, 2012

1. Project Schedule & Access • Demolition of the failing structure will begin at approximately 7 a.m. on June 11. Any
vehicles that residents intend to use during the 5-day closure period must be out and past the viaduct before the start time.

(The five-day estimate has since been revised and construction is expected to continue through July 15 during which time vehicle access will be limited.)

• Pedestrian access will be per the schedule that will be posted. A compacted walkway will be provided.
• There will be access to properties on Glandy Glen, with some delays for construction. The project starts just east of Glandy Glen. •Bicycles and small motorcycles should be able to traverse the pedestrian access pathway.
• When construction is not going on, pedestrians can pass through the project. There will be lights placed at the construction area and at the parking area on the west side of the project.

2. Shuttle & Transportation
• Hours of operation: 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with access through the Construction site per the posted schedule. Work is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with breaks to allow pedestrians to pass through the project. • The shuttle on the west side will pass through Guerneville with one stop at the Vets Building. There will be no other stops in town.
• The vehicles are ADA accessible.

•Most of the parking areas are on flat surfaces, but they may not meet all ADA requirements. It might be good to check out available spaces ahead of time. • Pets can ride if they are well behaved and not too large. This is a public shuttle for the convenience of the people who live on the east side of the project. Everyone must be considerate of others during this period • Carpooling is encouraged to reduce the total number of trips. • There will be no temporary traffic signal installed at the construction site.

3. Other services
• Garbage pickup for the east side of the viaduct will be rescheduled to Saturday. (June 16) • The Post Master will be sending out a notice to advise the customers on the east side of the viaduct what options are available for mail pickup and delivery. • Emergency vehicles will be parked on the east side of the road closure to provide services to the area. In the event of an emergency, emergency personnel will have to drive up to the west side of the project and walk across the site to where their vehicles are parked on the east side.
• The Sheriff’s Department is planning on parking a vehicle on the east side of the project to provide service to the area. • Security services will be contracted during the closure to provide security at the parking area west of the project and on the east side, where the emergency vehicles will be parked.

P.S.

On June 10 we received the following  comment from a reader whose e-mail handle is “yahdevi”.

“According to the county’s David Dammuller construction is planned through July 15 and vehicle access will be limited the entire time.
That’s 2 weeks longer than the county said at the meeting in Guerneville in May and will really have an impact on the people east of the bridge. And are the July 4th vacationers in for a surprise!”

This additional, updated information (along with attachments) which a reader received from
David Dammuller, Engineer Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works, was sent to us and we think you might find it useful:

There will be temporary bus stop locations for the Drake Road Project, and  barricades with signs indicating the stops should be in place along the road by Thursday, June 7.

Shuttles are scheduled to start running at 6:30 AM on Monday June 8. Shuttles will then run starting ½ hour before the scheduled pedestrian access opening and will stop running at 7 PM.

Starting on Tuesday, June 9, through Friday, June 15, shuttles will start at 5:30 AM.

I’ll forward Dammuller’s email to you Monsiuer Gross.

  2. Looks like I can’t forward the message the way the Press has set up your “contact me” page.

  3. A photo of the old bridge would have been more appropriate than one near the end of Glandy Glen.

  4. There will be two shuttle stops in Guerneville: in front of the Sheriff’s Dept. and one between Food For Humans and Safeway.

  5. C’est moi encore. It’s actually 3 weeks longer than the county first told us. If I got it wrong, excusez-moi, s’il vous plait.
