Another Fein Fein day
Join Father and daughter duo, Dan and Becky Fein at 7 p.m., Friday, November 16 at the Guerneville Community Church for an evening of acoustic American Folk Music, hot apple cider and other comestible treats. They’ll play traditional and familiar tunes and interject a few surprises. They enjoy audience participation so tune up your larynx.
If you think you’re experiencing Deja Vu it’s because this dynamic duo brought you their very limited traveling road show ten months ago, with similar treats (both edible and musical), for the same admission charge and in the same place, and benefiting the same group. In fact, if you attended last year’s recital, your seat may still be warm
Spending her formative years in Monte Rio Becky has immersed herself in advocating for sexual health, womens rights and reproductive justice, making them the topics of her undergraduate studies at U.C. Davis. She’s also involved in The Journey of Powerful Voices (JOPV), a project created by visionary partners Frances McCorkle and Becky Fein that illustrates the strength and productivity that people can realize along their path of healing after experiencing sexual assault in their lifetimes. Becky attended Columbia University in N.Y.C. in her pursuit of a Masters Degree in Public Health with an emphasis in reproductive health. Research and Social Outreach have been her forte and Creating Strength out of Trauma is a focus of JOPV.
Now she’s back on the Russian River to knock out a few tunes with her dad, Dan Fein in a benefit for the estimable Sonia Tubridy-led River Choir.
A River resident since moving here from L.A. in 1978, Dan Fein soon traded in his sports car for a ’48 Chevy truck, and Two Guys With a Big Truck became one of the chief sources of firewood for those of us who depended on wood heat to keep our cabins warm. After meeting his life-partner Kristin Thurman, the pair moved to Monte Rio in 1983, raising five kids and morphing Two Guys into a successful enough business to where he parked the truck and learned to program microcomputers for mailing lists and accounting, a business which he’s engaged in for sustenance ever since.
In his pursuit of making the River a better place for everyone to raise their kids, Dan has taken an ever-increasing role in local politics via the Russian River Redevelopment Project, which spawned the Oversight Committee, providing citizens with a voice concerning direction and spending of public funds. Appointed to the Citizens Advisory Committee for the General Plan update, he takes regular breaks from his civic responsibilities to sing with the
River Choir, and at Main Street Station’s open mic no mic soirees hosted by Kit Mariah on Sunday nights.
Dan and Becky would love to have you join them as they serenade the populace in a Benefit for the River Choir. Tickets are $10.
