Laguna Foundation and R.R. Sisters host Mardi Gras Casino Night
Mardi Gras Casino Night, a joint collaboration wedding the formidable forces of the Russian River Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation will leave the Laguna Environmental Center awash in jubilant euphoria on Saturday, February 2, 2013.
It’s a benefit for the Laguna Foundation’s Learning Laguna education program and the Sisters’ Community Grant Fund. And you’ll be a winner even if you’re not.
The Mardi Gras celebration will feature Casino Games, Cajun-accented food and drink, cacophonous Cajun cajolery, and some of the finest reels, jigs, and contredanses heard west of Slidell, Lake Charles and the Bayous.
The Bon Temps evening will feature a tantalizing gumbo of Casino games including poker, Blackjack, Craps, Roulette and, rumor has it, spin the Absinthe bottle. Mardi Gras attire is encouraged, and if you’ve seen what people wear and more often don’t wear during Rio’s and New Orleans’ Mardi Gras celebrations, you’ll probably be traveling light.
You’ll not only have an opportunity to strike it rich, but to help raise money for the Sisters’ Grant Fund which gives cash grants to some 20 worthy non-profits and needy organizations yearly. The Sisters champion diversity, wellness and a Free-to-be-Me without stigmatization sensibility not just in our unique community, but throughout the world.
The Laguna Foundation and its learning program are intended to familiarize folks with the importance of preserving and maintaining the Laguna de Santa Rosa (a wetland of international importance) and its abundant wildlife. The Laguna Foundation works hard to promote understanding and appreciation of this unique ecological treasure.
If you’re unfamiliar with how to play Casino games, free lessons will be provided.
The live music could include anything from Zydeco to jigs, to the Cajun two-step. Get loose, have a ton of fun and we guarantee you’ll feel better about yourself the next morning.
