Sistars of Jazz Part II

Sunday, February 3rd, 2013 | Posted by

Jannell Parr crowned Queen at KGGV’s Strawberry Festival

The Sistars of Jazz  are honoring two birthdays  on

“I know, I know…I don’t look 93!”

Friday, February 8 and everyone is invited to the party.
Even though they don’t need an excuse to serenade you (It’s a free event), they’re asking you to help celebrate what would have been the day sultry Lana Turner turned 93 and a surly James Dean turned a punky  82. Too bad they can’t make the party.

In a special presentation by five of the most talented performers in the West County. local ladies Kit Mariah, Jennell Parr, Noel Yates, Maple Profant and Darcy Reinier,  accomplished musicians, thespians, radio show hosts and charismatic stylists,  will sing and play individually as well as collaborate  with each other.

“Maple and Jannell? – where’s my horse?”

Kit Mariah plays trombone (but not here), is a producer, writer of musicals  and wears her hair in little bangs, Darcy Reiner, a third of the Pocket Canyon Ramblers plays bass and is the “Darcy” in Ian and Sylvia’s “Darcy Farrow” which was penned by her bother Steve Gilette.
Ms. Parr is a school teacher, and engaging performer, a past Strawberry Queen

Maple Profant makes love to her piano

and sings with confidence and conviction. Maple Profant’s piano becomes an instrument of Piano Noire and will make you feel like you have a bit part in “Casablanca.” Noel Yates is a combination of Carol Burnett, Ethel Merman and Lily Tomlin and lets you know who’s in charge the moment she hits the stage.

This FREE one-night-only show, at Guerneville’s Trio restaurant is a rare opportunity to be dazzled by multitalented artists, in a comfy, intimate bistro where the food is thoughtfully prepared and the bar provides enough choices to please everyone.
When: 7 p.m., Friday February 8

You’re welcome and I hope you approve of my “description” of you! You’re a great performer and I always enjoy your panache and style. See you soon.

Great write-up! I’ve known Miz Noel for some time, and your characterization of her is peerless.
I think the chance to say Break a leg may have passed–so here it is retrospectively. Alas, I live in Seattle and will not be, or have not been able to see the show.

Thanks so much for commenting – Noel is such a charismatic performer and a good-natured person. She always delivers! I have “family” in Olympia and love the Great North West. And it’s always gratifying to hear out-of-towners have an interest in reading my posts!
