Best Bets around Guerneville Feb. 11 to Feb. 17
6 p.m., Tuesday, February 12
Help celebrate Abe Lincoln’s birthday with a delightful $5 buffet on Give Back Tuesday at the Rainbow. It’s likely that if Abe still walked this Earth and lived nearby, he’d show up and contribute a few raffle prizes.
This week’s benefit is for the Russian River Senior Center which strives to enrich and strengthen the lives of seniors living in West Sonoma County…and to empower seniors to live independently by strengthening their family network. Says director Diane Spain, “We are often like a second family to those who come to the Senior Center, especially for those who have lost important people in their lives.” You may expect raffle prizes, unbridled hilarity, and full bellies.

A Ribbon-cutting ceremony to kick off the recently-approved Creekside Park project will take place and everyone is invited.
The long abandoned Monte Rio elementary school on Main Street just east of the heart of Monte Rio will be transformed into a community-focused destination where residents and visitors can enjoy a café, hiking trail, a skate park and a community farm. Says Supervisor Efren Carrillo,
“This beautiful, interactive and educational project is the culmination of several years of advocacy by community residents to remove blight while providing River area children, residents, and visitors with a unique opportunity to enjoy the creeks and open space in the heart of Monte Rio.”
